I offer a free 30-minute consultation for all new clients—by phone, Skype, or in person—to review your wellness goals. Our private lessons can be held at the beautiful studio at Yoga Farm, or at a location of your choosing (extra travel fees apply).
I teach a number of weekly group classes in the Ithaca and Lansing area at a variety of levels of experience and rigor. If you're unsure which class is right for you and your wellness goals, please don't hesitate to contact me!
My Approach
I teach a wide array of yoga styles, ranging from relaxingly gentle restorative yoga, to soothing yet strengthening slow flow yoga, to vigorous vinyasa yoga. My teaching style tends to incorporate flow movement with an emphasis on safe alignment and connecting with the breath as a gateway to the meditative experience of yoga at any level of rigor.
I teach with the tenet that there is a yoga for every body, and your yoga will meet you where you're at. No matter the age, weight, mobility issues, or even injuries, there are poses, modifications, and breathing exercises that can help students embody this practice of moving meditation.
Therefore, I work with my private clients to create customized sequences that are tailored to their physical abilities and goals; and in my group classes, I offer different levels of variations for poses so students can listen to their bodies' wisdom in finding the right pose for them, allowing space for each student to leave class feeling successful in their practice.
My "Why"
Contrary to what many of my friends and students assume, I discovered the power of yoga relatively late in my life. It wasn't until my penultimate undergraduate year at Cornell University that I went to my first yoga class. I immediately began to notice the healing benefits the practice began to manifest in my body, which had been stiffened from a relatively severe case of psoriatic arthritis since the onset age of 10 years old. Within a couple years, I received my yoga teacher training certification (in my native country Indonesia!) with the specific intention of sharing the alchemical healing that I swiftly received from my own practice.
I find unending purpose in my work by bearing witness to the profound physical, emotional, and energetic transformations within my students as they travel with me. As we join together in silence at the closing of each class, I bear witness to faces that have softened, eyes that have brightened, smiles that have widened—all symptoms of resonance with the student's True Nature. So every day, I bear witness to manifest proof of the Bhagavad Gita's assertion that "Yoga is the Journey of the Self, Through the Self, To the Self."
